The Perfect Long Weekend

Charles took off Monday so we had a long weekend with him. What a great daddy!

We started things off right Friday with the Annual Cowboy Breakfast ringing in the Austin Rodeo. It was great this year. Not too crowded, plenty of food, music, and fun. We threw the kids in the wagon with their nightgowns still on and off we went. Ellisa danced to the music while Hudson chowed down on brisket tacos, fried catfish, and pancakes. Coffee for the adults only. After work, we met up with some friends for drinks at The Gingerman–it’s nice to get out every now and then–and then I went out for drinks and dinner with a dear friend. A perfect Friday.

Saturday Charles played paint ball while me and the kids had fun relaxing at home. We took our time all day but still managed to squeeze in a walk to Zilker (Where we got a bouquet of balloons from another family who was going to throw them out. Who throws away balloons?!) and some playtime around our complex. I wasn’t up for being productive. It was nice to do nothing for a change. Isn’t that what Saturday is all about? Ellisa managed to get a sun burn some how. Look how cute her pink shoulders are.

Sunday was a gorgeous day and what better way to spend it then the 84th Annual Kite Festival! What blows me away (no pun intended) is we took the kids to this last year. What a difference a year makes! We had a gust of a time. Ellisa and I flew our kite while Hudson and Daddy toured the grounds, we all feasted on a pear snow cone, the kids played in the volleyball sandbox, and a good time was had by all. Ellisa even got her picture taken for The Daily Texan, but it didn’t get printed. :(

Monday was the best day yet. We started the day with Daddy making breakfast tacos and then off to Zilker park for some more fun in the sun. We played in the volleyball courts and then Ellisa and I had snacks under a tree while Hudson and Charles did some rock climbing. Next was nap and lunch and then we were off to Anna’s Toy Depot to find some new toys for the kids. We actually didn’t end up buying anything but it was good to browse since I know we’ll be back there soon to buy and/or sell toys. After our toy store extravaganza, we stopped by Phil’s Icehouse for a cold brew and some playscape fun. Phil’s was great. The playscape is completely fenced in so you don’t have to worry about your kids getting out and for the most part safe and fun. It’s built for slightly older kids so we couldn’t just let ours loose, but it won’t be long. To end the night off right, Charles cooked a boar’s leg. Don’t ask. We got to enjoy dinner with Courtney and Jess while hearing about their snowboarding trip to Jackson Hole. I love that my sister still boards. What a girl! Now I’m ready for some serious sleeping!

  1. Tons of fun! How nice that you guys are so close to Zilker Park. One year I tried to take Xavier to the Kite Festival; we drove around for an hour before we gave up on finding any parking. Poor kid.
Oh, my new favorite thing is having a margarita for dessert. That was a great idea we had!

Let the peanuts know your thoughts.
